Detection Principle

The kit is based on real-time PCR fluorescence technology targeting the highly conserved CHD (Chromo-Helicase-DNA-binding) gene, one of the most widely accepted molecular markers for avian sex determination.

Birds use a ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system:

  • Male: ZZ

  • Female: ZW

The CHD gene is present on both sex chromosomes as CHD-Z and CHD-W. Sequence differences between these two gene variants enable accurate molecular discrimination between male and female birds.

Using universal CHD gene primers and fluorescent probes, the assay simultaneously amplifies sex chromosome-specific targets. Fluorescence signals generated during real-time PCR are automatically analyzed to determine the bird's sex with high sensitivity and specificity.
